During a pitching, drunken revel aboard Pompey's ship, an infantry officer watches the rulers of the ancient world reeling around the deck and yearns that the earth were "on wheels." That is very nearly what Director Peter Brook has achieved in his whirling, boisterous version of Shakespeare's long, intractable tragedy, which opened last week in Stratford-upon-Avon. The play is not very often produced: exclusive of intermission, it runs 3% hours and with 42 scenes is as sprawling as a map of the Roman Empire...
DIED. Henry Trefflich, 70, the "Monkey King," who for 45 years imported wild animals to the U.S.; in Bound Brook, NJ. A flamboyant showman, Trefflich built a million-dollar-a-year business selling exotic creatures from his four-story Lower Manhattan menagerie to scientists, moviemakers and carnival hucksters. Among his sales: Tarzan's chimp Cheetah and the monkeys used in breakthrough Rh (rhesus) factor research. Trefflich claimed the escape was accidental; skeptics abounded...

Harvard boasts one of the highest yields, but it is only 74%, which means that four acceptances must be sent out for every three spaces in the freshman class. Also in the high-yield range: Yale, 69%; San Jose...
Before plunging into American assembly, VW did a great deal of thumbsucking. Its decision turned into a two-year touch-and-go process that had promoters for New Stanton and its chief rival for the plant, Brook Park, Ohio, hanging breathlessly by their seat belts. VW ultimately saw itself as having no choice but to assemble cars in the U.S. With the dollar losing value against the West German mark, VW's U.S. prices went up relentlessly. The average price of all Volkswagen models sold in the U.S. climbed almost 14% last year alone. VW, whose famous Beetle...
