Since the death of Dennis Cardinal Dougherty last May, the Roman Catholic archdiocese of Philadelphia has been without an archbishop. Last week Pope Pius appointed an outstanding one: John Francis O'Hara, 63, bishop of Buffalo, onetime (1934-39) president of the University of Notre Dame, and during World War II one of his church's directors of Roman Catholic Army & Navy chaplains.
