...former army comrades. "They were trying to profess their own cause," said Major General Abbas. "They were trying to justify their own actions." In reply, hostage army officers tried to convince him that he was "on the wrong side." As dawn rose over the 100-year-old British-built army garrison, an élite unit of commandos surrounded the small room where the hostages were being held. At 6 a.m., they launched a 45-minute operation that saw fierce cross fire. Three of the hostages died, but 30 were freed. Two commandos were killed, and three others sustained critical injuries...
...only dark cable comedies that have borrowed tricks from dramas. (The Office and Parks are also willing to take their characters into dramatic territory.) CBS's How I Met Your Mother is like a sitcom version of Lost: it's built around a central mystery - how the protagonist meets his eventual wife - and likes to play with nonlinear narratives, story lines that jump around in time. Now we have an opportunity to get it right...
...simply human nature? I just reject that argument. People in Whitopia would say, "Hey, Rich, birds of a feather flock together. What's the big deal?" Our government and businesses across the country make decisions every day that perpetuate segregation. When you say homes need to be built on a 1-acre lot, when you say apartment renters can't live in your community - these concrete policies are what contribute to segregation. It's not in our biology, and it's not natural. We're a great country - we've overcome some thorny problems in our past...
