...welcome the Bulldog to Cambridge today, and the thousands who follow him on his quest to John Harvard's pantry. He probably realizes that he won't be received with a "Help yourself." In fact it is only fair to warn him that there is a cry about the Square, requesting that the same treatment be given him as the possum; "Carve him to the bone". A peculiar sort of hospitality, that! But for that matter a peculiar sort of quest; we have heard that growl before--it means business...
While Coach Fisher and a number of his most reliable players went down to New Haven last Saturday to see the Tiger Bulldog contest, a substitute eleven faced Brown at Cambridge. Although the University came out of the struggle with the long end of a 9-7 score, it was only by a very slight margin that the team escaped defeat. Five times the Brounians threatened the Crimson goal-line and it was only the aggressive playing on the part of the second string forwards which prevented more than a single score from being made...
...next Saturday, after being held scoreless in the first two periods by the strong line play of the Vermont eleven, the Bulldog came back in the second half and registered a 14-0 victory. Five unsuccessful attempts at field goals were made by the Elis, and in the first half of the contest Yale threatened the opposing goal four times but lacked the drive necessary to score. Differing little from the tactics used against Bates in the opening game, the Eli play was featured both by the alert defensive work of the line and by a noticeable lack of brilliance...
...therefore a strong scoring team. However Yale is not unbeatable by any means. If Princeton's wide formations and her forward passing game had been as well executed against Yale as they were against the Crimson, Yale would have been a defeated team. It was not due to the Bulldog's superior defense, but rather to Princeton's inferior execution of plays that the Tiger's formations worked better against the Crimson than against the Blue. The Yale line is strong on the defense, and the Yale secondary defense men are hard, sure tacklers, but it has been shown...
...spite of a game right here in Cambridge all eyes turn towards New Haven today, and for two reasons; the Freshmen wind up their season when hey face Yale; and the Tiger and Bulldog stage their annual battle which is of peculiar interest to Harvard men. The "dopesters" will be in New Haven, to return with prophecies for the eager public; Yale and Princeton men will be there by the thousand;--but as far as Crimson support is concerned, it will have to make up in Quality what it lacks in quantity. The Freshmen are going it alone. They have...
