This letdown came the day after another bunch of astronomers (who had apparently paid less attention in high school trigonometry class) announced a miss of approximately 30,000 lousy miles, which left open the possibility of a good, solid creaming should a tailwind or something come along at the right moment. Along with the perennial pleasure of seeing the token wheezing kid flailing about, the whole thing's always an underrated spectacle. Who can turn down a bunch of kids enjoying themselves while a show is going on in their midst? The feat of training and rehearsals is truly stupendous and deserves some attention.
