John Alexander Machray, 68, embezzler, sometime bursar and board chairman of the University of Manitoba, sometime chancellor of the Anglican diocese of Rupert's Land; of cancer; in Stony Mountain Penitentiary, Manitoba. He was a famed lawyer and member of a distinguished family ("a Machray can do no wrong'") when huge shortages were turned up last year in the trust and endowment funds of his church and university.
