Usage:

...hotel-bus sequence which follows, characters in the bus are lit from one side. Lightning repeatedly illuminates the darker sides of their faces, making the bright side darker. The weight and direction of each shot is changed by these flashes of light; just as the lightning changes the plan of the road in front of the bus, one has with the characters a feeling of moral change, change almost of personal identity. Finally, some camera motions which amount to moral voyages over the settings and people depicted, lift us into a realm of new truths about personal experience...

Taken on its own terms Tonight at Noon may be entertaining, like reading a bus poster. But on the whole it is pedestrian and pretentious. The book does not deserve a nasty pen. It deserves a shiny pie plate...

...KESEY and TOM WOLFE--Wolfe wrote the book (The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test) about Kesey's organizing the Merry Pranksters, who crossed the U.S. in a bus with him, and threw huge parties in California with LSD in the Kool-Aid. The book is a milestone in acid literature, and probably the only good thing directly about the experience. Kesey has written Sometimes A Great Notion, a book that really flows, since he started taking the drug. And the Merry Pranksters are the ones who put fluorescent paint in psychedelics...
