Beneath the bitchy, lancing wit of the verbal byplay, Playwright Mart Crowley keeps a dead-level eye on the desolating aspects of homosexual life. He records the loveless, brief encounters, the guilt-ridden, blackout reliance on alcohol, the endless courtship rat race of the gay bars with its inevitable quota of rejection, humiliation and loneliness. Crowley underscores the fact that while the homosexual may pose as a bacchanal of nonconformist pagan delights, he frequently drinks a hemlock-bitter cup of despair...
...loot of the title is stolen money. Two homosexual pals, not immune to heterosexual byplay, have robbed a bank adjacent to a funeral parlor. One of the young men (James Hunter) works at the funeral parlor, and the mother of the other (Kenneth Cranham) has just died. The duo plan to skedaddle with the loot while the funeral is going on. At the same time, the dead mother's cynically efficient nurse (Carole Shelley), a sevenfold murderess of previous husbands, is precipitously wooing the bereaved widower. Into this den of agitated vipers steps Truscott (George Rose) of Scotland Yard...

"Oh, I was thirsty," she says, as she drains a glass of water in some seductive byplay with Brother Lenny. Soon Lenny is brushing her face with kisses. "She's wide open," observes Brother Joey, taking over the love play on sofa and floor. All this happens in front of Teddy, who inexplicably makes no gesture of protest. He still maintains his deadpan cool when...
