About thirty men reported at the first 'varsity practice in the cage. This list does not include the men on last year's team, as they will not begin work for several weeks yet. ...Their work so far has consisted of light dumb-bell exercises in the Gymnasium, followed by a short run to the Carey building, where they practice catching grounders and starting. They have also begun lately to practice sliding. The candidates for battery positions are now working in the gymnasium cage and will probably be joined soon by some of the 'varsity candidates. From present indications the freshmen should have a strong battery, but it is too early as yet to judge of the quality of the other candidates...
