...freakish recluse. Now she has married an actor who has made two movies in Las Vegas. LISA MARIE PRESLEY seems to be assembling a nuptial collage of her late father Elvis. After her marriages to Danny Keough and Michael Jackson, Presley walked down an aisle in Hawaii with NICOLAS CAGE last week, the 25th anniversary of Elvis' death. The groom, a fan of Elvis memorabilia, got to add the King's daughter to his collection...
...accompanying him - Myra Gale Brown, the 13-year-old daughter of his cousin J.W. Brown (who played bass in his touring band) - had been his wife since December 12, 1957. Jerry Lee was used to hell breaking loose around him, but usually he was the one who opened its cage. Now he looked pale and defenseless in the tabloid press's glare. The Rank theater chain canceled his bookings, he returned to the U.S. to find the reception no kinder, and the bride and groom found themselves the Monica-and-Bill of the '50s. Top-40 radio stations exiled Jerry...
...even more rickety star vehicle. Full of implausible chase scenes (Ever go skateboarding ahead of an avalanche?), director Rob Cohen's epic is pretty inept, while lacking the idiot intensity that makes for a classically bad movie. Basically a butch La Femme Nikita, XXX has extreme-sports star Xander Cage (Diesel) shanghaied into a U.S. government spy unit to buy hot cars from Russian anarchist Yorgi (hyperemoting Marton Csokas). Yorgi is brilliant enough to create a nerve-gas missile system but not quite smart enough to lock the door to his hideout. So Xander struts in for a climactic face...
...high-camp, high-concept, highly stylized adrenaline rush of a movie--Diesel stars as Xander Cage, the ripped and tattooed un-James Bond. Like Diesel himself, who admits that when he was a child his "appetite for attention was insatiable," Xander is a self-starting, self-promoting charmer who is presumably unfit for any occupation other than star. Obsessed with dangerous exploits that require extreme athleticism, Xander sells black-market films of himself performing such stunts as stealing the Corvette of a right-wing Senator, driving it off a cliff and parachuting to safety. He's recruited...
...classic arrange-ments by the Planets, he was careful to credit the ori-ginal composers. He even titled the minute's silence that preceded the bonus tracks One Minute's Silence and credited it to Batt/Cage - a cheeky reference to the late avant-garde composer, right, John Cage's famous, silent work of 1952, 4' 33". Cage's publisher, Peters Edition, got the joke but filed for a share of the copyright dues anyway. While Batt was still "in hysterics", his label, EMI, had already coughed up a first installment of €460 to them. Batt wants it back, denies...
