Another process, called pyrolysis, will be used in Denver, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Baltimore, Seattle and Charleston, W. Va. Refined by Monsanto, Union Carbide and other companies, the technique involves new, virtually oxygen-free furnaces to convert organic trash into oil or gas.
