Based on a play by Paul Anthelme, I Confess depicts a young Catholic priest, who, after hearing a real murderer's confession, is accused of the same murder. As the young priest, callow Montgomery Clift turns in a fine, sensitive performance. But by far the best actor is O. E. Hasse. Playing the warped, half-mad killer, he excites pity and hate with equal verve. Adding new zest to a standard role, Karl Malden plays the relentless, somewhat sadistic police inspector. Brian Aherne, a jovial but brilliant Crown Prosecutor, and Anne Baxter as the frustrated lover of the young priest...
...independent rowing clubs joining in an effort to upset Navy. If the middies win, they will be the first Eastern crew to represent the U.S. in the Olympics since 1924. But win or lose, last week's sweep was a particularly happy day for Navy's Rusty Callow, dean of crew coaches. A year ago on the turbulent Ohio, in Callow's first year at Annapolis, all three Navy shells sank, in a disaster referred to as "the little Pearl Harbor...
Navy, up & coming since veteran Coach Rusty Callow took over the helm two years ago, was the crew to watch. Callow did not even seem impressed with Navy's winning time, only 2.8 seconds off the course record. Said he: "You can't tell anything about records. Wind and tide make too much difference." But by the time...

Harvard, which had won every Adams Cup since 1937, was understandably glum. Said Harvard Coach Harvey Love, echoing what every crewman now knew: "Navy certainly is the top crew. They're the ones to knock off-if anyone...
...Harvard. For the first time since 1937 the previously invincible Crimson varsity grew lost the Adams Cup to Navy, and finished third behind the Middies and Penn in Saturday afternoon's regatta on the Charles. It was Navy's fourth consecutive victory of the season, and puts Rusty Callow's oarsmen in prominent contention for the U.S. Olympic berth...
