This is the one period of Napoleon's life (except, presumably, his conception) that could be filmed on a small budget; the war is over, thus effecting a great economy in props and stunt riders; all that is needed is a smallish garrison of redcoats, a brace of cameo parts (filled, with steely and rather contemptuous panache, by Sir Ralph Richardson and Sir John Gielgud), one or two sexual objects, a Napoleon, some rocks for the escape attempt and a sunset or two to be glowered at from cliff tops. Once these were assembled, Director Fielder Cook...

Gena Rowlands (Mrs. Cassavetes) brings a poignancy and complexity to Minnie that makes hers one of the memorable performances of the year. Cassel is full of dizzying charm and whirling-dervish energy. As always with Cassavetes' films, there are cameo roles so rich they could each make a movie in themselves: Val Avery as a loudmouthed date of Minnie's, Tim Carey as a poetry-spouting bum who disdains the movies ("A lot of lonely people sitting there looking up at a screen-what do I need that for?"). Why, it's-it's Glenda Jackson...

...movie is a patchwork of pop culture - its title derived from a Tim Buckley tune, its sound track laden with song fragments and snippets of news broadcasts, its pastel photography reminiscent of countless TV commercials. Monte Hellman, director of Two-Lane Blacktop, even appears in a cameo role. All this does not amount to much more than another episode of Sunset Strip angst, but there are reassuring indications throughout that Director James Frawley and Scenarist Floyd Mutrux are capable of better work...

...alumnus of the satirical Second City theater troupe and one member of his staff has just arrived from the Dick Cavett Show. It is even now apparent that an appearance on Electric Company is going to be the chic guest gig of 1971-72, just as a cameo spot on Batman was the kick of the late '60s. Top comics like Mel Brooks, Bob and Ray, Tom Lehrer and Victor Borge have all signed up to do the show...
