...audience knows what to expect from a teen movie: Cameron Diaz using man-made hair gel, Tom Green molesting an elephant and lots of jokes about testicles. No surprise that the audience, more and more, is keeping its distance from youth-oriented flicks unless they are of the action-adventure variety, with plenty of noise to drown out the script. ...Aside from the Hong Kong affair, though, this Cannes was relatively star-starved. Everyone wasn't there. Jack Nicholson (The Pledge), Cameron Diaz (Shrek) and Marlon Brando (Apocalypse Now Redux) all had major movies on display, but none of them showed. This was a festival of films, not photo ops, and even on screen the magic was in short supply...
