...contained insularity of American life has been commented on endlessly, with its gated communities, mirror-tinted SUVs and Xbox-equipped "man caves" requiring zero participation in public life. But these ever narrowing areas of interest, however great they may be - and things like all-Latin fried-chicken chain Pollo Campero or Bacon of the Month Club are really, really great - point out that we are no longer a single nation. And when you lose that, you lose the foods that go with it, like the old standards of roast beef and twice-baked potatoes and lobsters served with melted butter...
...summer of 2007 you appeared on TV screaming that Ben Bernanke had no idea how bad things were on Wall Street. A leading exponent of the "automatic recognition" policy at last April's Bogota conference, Paz Campero had made his country the first to recognize the new military regime in Peru, had been all for giving Venezuela the same pat on the back. But the Bolivian government, in company with the U.S. and many a hemispheric neighbor, had decided to go slow in making friends with juntas...
...Tokyo, up popped Kovichi Seito, hitherto unheard of Japanese brother-in-law of Dictator Busch. Guessed Seito: Bolivia will soon join the Anti-Comintern Pact. Guessed Bolivian Minister Dr. Antonio Campero Arce in Rome: Bolivia is a totalitarian State, it will soon join the Pact. Kept guessing in Washington, U. S. observers guessed hardest about Bolivia's oil barter deal with Germany, gasped at a rumor that an ex-German staff officer in Bolivia swung...
