...Russia didn't enjoy itself much, apparently, and South Korea felt hard done by in a speed skating race. After a precedent had been established with a second set of gold medals for the Canadian pairs skaters, everyone was asking for arbitrations and replays and re-runs and extra medals. It wasn't pretty, all these sore losers. What was pretty was the sight of the heavily favored German bobsledders hoisting Vonetta Flowers on their shoulders at Olympic Park. Those four Germans, who among them had won every single race on this season's World Cup bobsled circuit, never entertained...

...Canadian Geraldine Heaney, the grande dame of women's hockey who has played on each of Canada's seven world championship teams, said after tonight's game: "Women's hockey, it's gotten so much better? Every country has improved 100%. It was nice to see Sweden get a bronze medal. They were talking about not even showing up." Perhaps if more funding shows up for the Swedes and other non-North American teams, we'll see a real tournament four years from now in Turin...

...Incomprehensible. Outrageous! Moreover, the entire Russian Olympic team was threatening to pull out of the Games this very evening. They'd been hard done because some cross-country skier had tested positive and Wednesday's hockey game was called too closely and there was still that thing with the Canadian pairs and, well, they were in fifth place overall and someone had to answer to Putin. (Or so speculated a Russian journalist at the press conference where Russia aired its many grievances. The journo was hooted down for treason by a team official...
