DIFFERENT sorts of problems present themselves when the blind student reaches college. David, only a freshman, is still in the process of adjusting to University life. Living in Wigglesworth, right in the Yard, he finds no difficulty in getting around with a cane, which he claims is both simpler and easier than a seeing eye dog. A prospective English major, David so far has been able to obtain most of the books he needs in Braille, and uses only one reader (a person who reads to a blind student) a week. He also makes use of Talking Books--a program...
Green Belt. As Castro and his men envision it, Cuba's future is in the countryside, in agriculture and in youth. Although Fidel recently complained that while other nations were sending men to the moon, he was having trouble sending people into the cane fields, almost everyone who can work does so. In the Cordón, a green belt around Havana where coffee and citrus trees have been planted, civil servants labor side by side with students, encouraged by the steady beat of the Brincos, the Latin Beatles, as it blasts from Radio Cordón. Lee and Schefter stayed at Cane Kennedy until the successful liftoff; then Schefter piloted them by private plane to Houston's Manned Spacecraft Center, thus escaping the massive migration of newsmen that jams transportation to Houston after a launch. In Houston, they joined Neff, who had managed to relocate the entire bureau, including Teletype machines, to a hotel...
...world beyond Wall Street, most financial trade publications seem as dull and dreary as a stock prospectus. A new publication in this ar cane area of journalism, however, is fast proving that writing about high finance can be both exciting and amusing. Its editor is 'Adam Smith,' the author of the irreverent and humorous bestseller, The Money Game. As Wall Street and publishing circles know by now, Smith is really George J.W. Good man, 38, a former Rhodes scholar, journalist (TIME, FORTUNE), novelist and screenwriter (The Wheeler Dealers). Considerably less well known is Good man's latest...
