Cedar Walton shows why he is still one of the most under-rated pianists in his smooth accompaniement. The album is fortunate to have "Hub Cap", a long unavailable cut featuring Hubbard, Heath, and Philly Joe Jones, among others. And, for those who are collecting them, there is a dandy "Body and Soul" with Hubbard, Shorter, Reggie Workman (on bass) Philly Joe and Walton. Easy listening...

Died. Alex Rose, 78, leader of New York State's Liberal Party; of cancer; in Manhattan. Rose's political involvement stemmed from his activity in the United Hatters, Cap and Millinery Workers International Union, where for 26 years he served as president. Four decades ago, Rose co-founded the American Labor Party; when it began to take on a Communist tint in 1944, he and other union leaders created the rival Liberal Party.
