What to Look For This is the U.S. debut of Hong Kong director Peter Chan. Filming took place in the quaint, idyllic, sleepy, picturesque town of Rockport, Mass. Star Kate Capshaw, best known as Steven Spielberg's wife, best remembered as the second Indiana Jones girl, long ago made The Love Letter her pet project when she optioned the movie rights of the book. Expect it to have a pleasingly female perspective on what it means to fall in love. ...Arquette is set with a particularly difficult part in the role of Tommy, who must be both densely naive and a stunningly talented salesman. While former White House intern Monica Lewinsky makes headlines for her immunity deal with investigator Kenneth Starr, President Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton are planning to be guests at Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw's estate in the Hamptons this weekend. On their datebook: three Democratic fund-raisers that could net $1 million. On Friday it's a $25,000-a-couple dinner at the home of investment banker Bruce Wasserstein. On Saturday: First, it's a $5,000-a-plate event hosted by composer Jonathan Sheffer and Dr. Christopher Barley, followed by a bash hosted by Alec...

Vaughn is likable as Clay, projecting definite screen presence particularly when he is required to be in James Dean mode-but simply doesn't have enough to work with. Capshaw delivers a few good lines, but just never seems mean enough (despite the castration scene) to be a sultry villainess. The great Judd proves once again that she's good enough to act in anything. In one of the quieter scenes in the film, with Judd and Davies sitting in swings at a drive-in movie theater, their faces silhouetted against...
