...finals in doubles in the tennis tournament were played yesterday afternoon between Hovey and Chase and Brooks and Parker. Hovey and Chase won easily in three straight sets, despite careless playing. Hovey smashed the balls very prettily several times, and Parker played a brilliant, though exceedingly unsteady game. The winners will play Tallant and Lee for the championship of the college. The score by games...
...expected that the Cornell eleven would give Harvard some valuable practice; but the practice that the 'varsity got out of Saturday's game is the sort that makes a team careless. The visitors played a plucky game; but they were over-matched at every point and became discouraged in the last half; further, they were hardly in condition to play their best game, for they had played on Thursday and Friday and had been up a great deal traveling. Their eleven is made up of strong, heavy men, and if they knew the game they would give any team...
...team and nearly half the length of the field was remarkable. Fearing also played well; his tackling is peculiar but effective. We should be happy, as it is what Christ wishes us to be, but never shirk an unpleasant task or be callous to the cries of suffering. As a man hopes for happiness in a future life...
Ninety-two played two twenty minute halves with the Cambridge Latin School on the common. The juniors had much the heavier team. Considering their light weight Cambridge played a very good game. Both sides were careless during the first half, but showed much more snap during the second. During the second half Cambridge came dangerously near scoring, but they lost their opportunity through their own fumbling as well as through '92's sharp playing. The juniors played the last part of the game with only 10 men, as Henry was disqualified. Score, Ninety-two 30; Cambridge Latin...
