Romero, and twentysomethings Tom Hall (programmer), Carmack and the taciturn graphic artist Adrian Carmack (oddly, no relation), formed id in 1991. A year later, they moved from Shreveport, Louisiana, to Mesquite, neither of which will be mistaken for Silicon Valley...
