Jim Woodring, author of the comicbook "Frank," writes a personal appreciation of the early gag cartoonist T. S. Sullivant who, "posed his characters in ways never seen before or since." Other historical essays include one about Bill Holman's "Smokey Stover" strip from the 1930s.
