...will ever know how Afghans voted in their country's presidential elections on Aug. 20, 2009. Seven weeks after the polling, the U.N.-backed Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) is still trying to separate fraudulent tallies from ballots. In some provinces, many more votes were counted than were cast. E.U. election monitors characterize 1.5 million votes as suspect, which would include up to one-third of the votes cast for incumbent President Hamid Karzai. Once fraud occurs on the scale of what took place in Afghanistan, it is impossible to untangle...
Nevertheless, the cast leaves an impression on the audience; the acting is sincere, and the performance is engaging. The actors use the theatre well, making the actual space seem larger. They prance through the aisles and leap onto the side ledges, providing a spectacle that captures the audience’s attention from every corner of the room. We don’t know whether to look at the drunken man staggering through the aisle or the sloppily dressed duo at the front of the room, swinging their legs in unison as they relax on the ledge...
Eduardo J. Perez-Torres ’12 and Sara S. Lytle ’13 particularly stand out from the rest of the cast. They convey the natures of their characters convincingly and clearly. Perez-Torres also delivers a touching performance as the tormented...

The fairies in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” wear light, embellished dresses that capture their seductive nature perfectly. In the two most serious scenes of the play, portraying the sins of “Wrath” and “Envy,” the characters are costumed in formal wear that enhances the austerity of the scene. The stiff feel of their outfits reminds us that...
...deputies are likely to cast the critical deciding votes on the initiative in parliament. Although some pro-autonomy parties like the Catalan Republican Left will be voting for the motion in a bloc, the more conservative CiU is allowing its deputies to vote their conscience. And that may just be enough to pass the ban. "There are some within the party who see bullfighting as a tradition worth protecting," says Rull. "But there's a larger group - I count myself among them - that believes we shouldn't treat the torture of animals as a public spectacle anymore." (Read "In Spain...
