Blair Witch, like any movie, has many antecedents. It is, by our casual count, the 873rd horror movie about youths who go into the woods on a lark and come out on a slab; the 4,982nd in which people disappear in reverse order of star quality; and the zillionth in which kids are frightened into a state of suicidal stupidity. Horror's evil creatures don't have to be very cunning when the heroes keep wandering in circles or deeper into the old dark house...

Most of the 49,087 people in Yankee Stadium that Thursday night were too busy watching pitcher Roger Clemens get shelled by the Atlanta Braves to notice the man in the box seat near the Yankee dugout. Eating a Lemon Chill, sipping a Deer Park water and looking casual in a white polo shirt, he might have been easy to overlook, except, as usual, at least a few people quickly noticed. By choosing it as their lead single, the Chemical Brothers are perhaps making a conscious commitment to doing it on their own terms. Certainly Surrender has other songs more immediately appealing to the casual listener. But "Hey Boy Hey Girl" is an out-and-out dance song, with an eminently catchy hook ("Hey Boy/Hey Girl/Superstar DJs/Here We Go") that launches the song into party mode (and provides a shout along lyric that will guarantee inclusion in DJ sets...
