...that long and happy marriage. On each episode of Honey We're Killing the Kids! (debuts April 10), nutritionist Dr. Lisa Hark visits a family with bad eating and exercise habits. The money scene comes when Dr. Hark leads the parents into a stage that looks like a medieval catacomb and shows them, on a giant TV screen, computer projections of what their kids will look like at age 40 if they keep gorging on sugar and fried food. In the pilot, the parents watch, horrified, as their three sons morph and swell into pallid, pimply, ill-groomed tubs...
...unknowns, its $80 million budget puts it between Alien vs. Predator and The Incredibles. An ensemble of 100-plus sings and dances through Schumacher's enormous, immaculately designed soundstages. In addition to the roof set, where stone gargoyles gaze down malevolently, there's the Phantom's Lair - a dark catacomb where the deformed genius composes on his grand piano to the steady accompaniment of water dripping into a stagnant, green pond. The space, illuminated by hundreds of candles, was so humid that Butler compares it to an enormous microwave. "I wear prosthetics on my face, which melt if it gets...
...trying to raise a daughter about the same age as the murder victim. And Wilson's descriptions often achieve epigrammatic power. Here is Felsen visiting bombed-out Berlin near the end of the war: "Everybody was living underground. The city had been turned upside-down--a honeycomb below, a catacomb above." A Small Death in Lisbon is so carefully textured and so packed with grace notes that its dramatic conclusion seems as much interruption as resolution...
James Casebere's surreal photographs of plaster models and catacomb-like spaces display the camera obscura method in a markedly different manner. For Casebere, his studio becomes a metaphorical representation of the pinhole camera; his eerie black and white prints, though smaller and less enchanting than Morell's work, beguile the viewer. In "Toilets," a dye destruction print, 11 toilet bowls march across the back wall of something resembling a prison cell: the third bowl in the sequence lies dejectedly on its side, a single white beam illuminating its slightly skewed seat. The accompanying placard describes the photographer's intentions...
...seemingly were armed and trained in Marxist South Yemen, but were fundamentalists opposed to all modernism, led by a zealot who had proclaimed the revolution in Iran to be a "new dawn" for Islam. It took the Saudi army more than a week to root them out from the catacomb-like basements of the mosque, and 156 died in the fighting?82 raiders and 74 Saudi troopers. In addition, demonstrators waving Khomeini's picture last month paraded in the oil towns of Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. Saudi troops apparently opened fire on the protesters and at least 15 people...
