In the next inning, after Minot had struck out, Lanigan and Marshall were passed. Lanigan stole second and continued to third on the catcher's poor throw to second. Another throw to second in an attempt to prevent Marshall from stealing resulted in another error, this one by Norton, who failed to get the short throw from the catcher, and Lanigan scored before the ball was recovered.
