...first period started fast with Harvard getting a quick jump at 2:57 when sophomore Joey Cavanagh picked up a Dan DeMichele pass, skated in and netted the puck from 10 feet. A Harvard penalty at 7:03 gave B.U. an advantage but a great defensive effort by Harvard combined by several spectacular saves by Bruce Durno averted any score. The rest of the period saw more fine defensive play by both teams preclude any further score...

...scored quickly in the second period on a screened slap shot by captain Billy Hinch from about fifteen feet. Both teams moved to the defensive upon successive penalties and there was no score until 8:10 when DeMichele and Cavanagh again teamed up to put Harvard into the lead. This time DeMichele passed from behind the goal to Cavanagh who promptly shot the puck home as goalie Jim McCann stood watching. The teams then moved back to defense until the end of the period when suddenly Harvard came to life and only spectacular saves by McCann averted any score...
