Some years ago, the University pledged itself to a policy of absolute freedom in religious opinion, and thus incidentally provided itself with a future athletic rival. The well known institution at New Haven owes its origin to certain dissatisfied divines, following a dispute in which Harvard officially decided in favor of religious freedom. ...seems that this spirit of toleration will shortly receive a trial. An article in the current "Illustrated" contains the information that the Reverend William Sunday is scheduled to visit here next year. It seems almost certain that he will not find existing conditions entirely to his taste, nor from past experience does it seem probable that he will be at all backward in saying as much. As to the accomplishment of the last two it is as yet too early to say, except that there has been a gradual betterment of hygienic conditions throughout the Republic during the last...

This picture was described by Vasari as being painted for the convent of Monte Oliveto, near Siena, in 1385. The great altarpiece has long since been dismembered and scattered. Certain parts are in Siena, some are in Budapest, and the central panel, representing the Madonna and Child and Angels, went first to a collection in Florence, later to London, and has now been in the Fogg Museum for eleven years. The missing parts just acquired by this museum were...
