Your article advocates "retirement insurance" as an alternative to the 401(k) but fails to mention that such an option already exists [Oct. 19]. The variable annuity--guaranteed income throughout your retirement--is an option included in certain 401(k) plans. The government can encourage or mandate the inclusion of an insurance/annuity option in 401(k) plans but should not replace the 401(k) with such an option.
