Modern artists have apparently reached a stage of development which would defy even the criticism of the most conservative critics. A certain Mr. Deckinson of the individualist faith, having painted a picture entitled "The Fossil Hunters" in ghostly gray with a recumbent old man delicately pointing a twig in the general direction of a grind stone in the semi-abstract, won a five hundred dollar prize. Unfortunately, the photographer commissioned to take a picture of this work of art, being a conservative in the matter of posing and of regard for the limitations of his patrons, noted something amiss...
Obstreperous journalists, undergraduate and metropolitan, might well undergo a certain amount of chest expansion at the news that one of their chance shots at improving the existent system of college athletics, has taken effect. Massachusetts Agricultural College is the proving ground: the goat is basketball, or possibly the captain of that sport, who is to give the idea of student coaching a workout this season. If it has only one really great game, I hope that it will come against Yale, but you can rest assured that the line and the backs will do a fine job against Michigan...
...good percentage of this mass movement towards certain fields of knowledge can be very definitely traced towards the language requirements, which stand like nearly unsurmountable barriers in the minds of a goodly proportion of the undergraduate body. The distributional courses, too, while not provocative of the same degree of unpleasantness as are the language requirements, have ensnared many an unsuspecting man in their toils...
