Most teachers now prefer the bilingual method. Says Winnie Porter, a bilingual teacher at the Cesar Chavez Elementary School in San Francisco: "It's very simple. You teach children in the language they think in; then they understand the concepts. Once they understand the concepts, they can transfer these skills to a second language. I know it works.
