Terry Ray Robinson as Judas provides the single most powerful head of steam to keep the show moving through these cloudinesses of interpretation. His stage presence and confident characterization are matched by Chad Hummel as Pontius Pilate, who pads on and offstage like a lion, and Suzanne Tanner as a warm and believable Mary Magdalen. Isaacs, unfortunately, adds little to the pivotal role of Jesus besides his face; his voice and assurance improve markedly toward the end of the show, but his projection of any moral leadership or savior-like attributes at all wavers...
...while, another dispute loomed, involving two rival delegations from Chad. One represented former President Goukouni Oueddei, who had seized power with Libyan military backing in November 1981. The other was led by current President Hissene Habre, who was ousted by Oueddei but regained power in a counter-coup five months ago. Gaddafi demanded that the opposition Oueddei group be seated as the official Chadian delegation...
...Massachusetts areas-Fitchburg-Leominster and Lawrence-Haverhill-bringing up the rear. More recently, University of Pennsylvania Professor of Social Work Richard Estes turned up with an index to the "quality of life" in 107 nations. Top marks went to Denmark and Norway and booby prizes to Ethiopia and Chad (the U.S. ranked 41st, two notches above the U.S.S.R.). Gaddafi has close military ties to the Soviet Union, a propensity for sending expeditionary forces elsewhere in Africa (to Uganda and Chad, for example), and an undisguised ambition to radicalize such Third World bodies as the Organization of African Unity and the nonaligned movement. He is, therefore, pre-eminent in the demonology of the Reagan Administration. In a number of offices at the CIA, Gaddafi's picture hangs next to those of Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev and Cuban President Fidel Castro in a kind of unholy trinity. An agency official not long ago called Gaddafi "the first among equals...
...recruiting military personnel to run a training camp for Libyan terrorists and conspiring to kill a Gaddafi opponent living in exile in Egypt. Wilson allegedly hired former American military pilots to fly Libyan planes and helicopters, with some of them taking part in Tripoli's intervention in neighboring Chad in 1980. He is also suspected of peddling sophisticated American electronic equipment to Middle East countries and attempting to sell U.S. computer technology to the Soviet Union. Investigators in Colorado have linked him to a former Green Beret who shot a Libyan student in Fort Collins two years ago. Federal...
