Besides the champion there shall be a "guard" of four men. Any one of these may challenge the champion to a match for his title and any member of the club may challenge any member of the guard for his place. There shall also be a sophomore champion who must defend his title from any man in the two lower classes. The executive committee appointed as guard: W. L. Van Kleeck '95, J. Hewins '96, L. B. Shoenfeld '95, H. Lewis '96; and as sophomore champion, A. W. Ryder. Hewins has already begun a match with the present champion...

Chess and Whist Club.At the meeting of the Chess and Whist Club in the D. U. Rooms last night, Mr. Franklin K. Young, for many years champion chess player of New England, gave an exhibition of simultaneous play. Out of eleven simultaneous games Mr. Young won all but four and of these three were drawn.
