In Joe Mathews' July 30 article on the charitable donations missing from "Evening with Champions," he includes a paragraph referring to, of all things, Ad Board procedures for rape cases. The paragraph is wrong, and I would like to correct the information for your readers and our students.
The Crimson, alone among local media organizations, had located and talked to Charles K. Lee '93, a former Evening With Champions co-chair who had a long, involved explanation for the missing money.
Last week, however, saw the tables turn. The Boston media was actively pursuing a story about a $160,000 donation that Eliot House's ice skating charity, Evening With Champions, never made to the Jimmy Fund, which raises money for cancer treatment and prevention.
Taylor said that, in fact, records of the show had been difficult to find and that the University would look into changing the informal way Evening With Champions keeps its books.
Lee also said some of the event's unpaid debts included money owed WGBH-TV, which has supplied a producer, Susie Dangel, for the show. Questioned outside The Crimson Sunday night, Dangel called the situation "sad." Officials at WGBH-TV have been unable to confirm or deny that they were...
