...seem to be a Sinead O'Connor kind of place. Given her reputation as a fiery, outspoken singer, one might expect her to favor shadowy, wrong-side-of-town pubs. Bewley's on Westmoreland Street at first glace seems like the kind of coffeehouse where one might spy Chandler, Monica and the rest of the Friends gang sipping cappuccinos. But in truth, Bewley's is a historic chain in Ireland (James Joyce is claimed as a past patron), so this is where O'Connor, who lives nearby in a three-bedroom apartment, chooses to meet and talk about Faith...

...millennium. Gerald Clarke has done a fine, if sad, job on Judy Garland (Get Happy; Random House). Esther Williams has published an unexpectedly spirited memoir (The Million Dollar Mermaid; Simon & Schuster) in which she reveals, among other things, that she did not marry the ripple-jawed Jeff Chandler in the '50s because he liked to dress up in women's clothes ("You're too big to wear polka dots," she told...

From their humble beginnings, the Los Angeles Times and its parent Times Mirror Co. have grown into a media powerhouse with several publications and television stations under their control. But after the announcement March 13 that the Tribune Co., the owner of the Chicago Tribune and various other newspapers and television stations, will...

...seemingly complicated, what astounds is how a movie which initially has potential for so much comedic depth ends up being only as deep and enjoyable as your run-of-the-mill Hugh Grant flick. Perry plays the nervous neighbor to perfection, but too often resorts to the antics of Chandler Bing on "Friends," and he is unwholly suited for the heroic turn he makes later in the movie. Bruce Willis plays the glamorous hitman a little too glamorously, and his comedic style appears to be to speak as little as possible while still looking glib and threatening. Having appeared...
