...predecessors. When it goes into regular operation for British Rail between Dover and Boulogne, probably in August, it will carry more than 600 passengers-or 30 cars and 250 passengers. It will take only 30 or 35 minutes to cover the 30-mile cross-Channel route, and will reach speeds as high as 70 m.p.h. in calm seas...
...administration was more sanguine about RGA's usefulness-until this past semester. It had felt that RGA was an effective channel for transmitting messages to the students community, for sending up trial balloons on various proposals, and, generally for keeping in touch with student opinion. Then, with the hunger strike last spring over non-Radcliffe housing rules, with the dispute over the fourth House last semester, and finally, with the Dow incident, even those close to Mrs. Bunting had to admit that she and the administration were out of touch, despite...
Unfortunately, in the context of a graded system, and given the present use of grades, there is no marginal change by which the university can induce students to channel much effort outside of graded courses. The Israelis immediately suspected an Egyptian maneuver aimed not only at reopening the canal's entire 107-mile length but perhaps at clearing...
Speedboat Raids. Around Port Harcourt in the south, Biafrans have kept at bay Nigerian troops, who are 25 miles down the channel on Bonny Island. They have mounted gun batteries and trip-wire mines around the channel to discourage a waterborne assault, even venture out in speedboats for raids on Bonny. Biafran guerrillas sneak into their occupied capital of Enugu at night to harry the federal garrison, are battling with rusty Dane guns and cutlasses against a federal division along the Niger River. The Biafrans have also prevented another invasion force dug into the port town of Calabar from crossing...
