...working day, the walls come down completely. Clinton carries upstairs to the residence the fat folder of policy questions and decision memos that accumulate in his In box every day, but the rest of his life is up there waiting for him. He channel surfs among news, sports and nonstop talk shows, thinks through the twisted case again and again, calls friends and supporters to gauge reaction to the day's events and, most important, checks in with his friends in the Senate...

Clinton's statement also brings up the question of what exactly the mainstream is. Judging by the last election, "the mainstream" consists of white, middle-class, heterosexual men and women who watch the Disney channel with their soccer-playing children. If this is indeed the "mainstream," does Clinton want all new immigrants to become Disney parents? Such thinking inherently downplays the contribution of minorities to American society and the value of using minority communities as models. Pushed further, such thinking takes the form of white supremacy...

...during this time. Meanwhile GEENA DAVIS, who will host the pre-show, has promised not to ask arrivals about their outfits, which may leave little to talk about. "Maybe she'll ask them about algebra," muses JOAN RIVERS, who has traditionally owned that piece of airtime on the E! channel and will broadcast this year until she's cut off. "She shouldn't ask about fashion," Rivers continues. "She's a lovely girl, but this is a person who wears pirate outfits...

...Teletubbies all the time: A kid's dream. A parent's nightmare. But by year's end it will be a reality for the tiny fraction of Americans who have access to high-definition digital television (HDTV). PBS will use the new medium to bring viewers a channel with round-the-clock programming for young children. "Barney and Friends" and the ubiquitous "Teletubbies" will be part of the lineup when PBS Kids Channel launches September 1. It may eventually include some educational programming like nature shows, since great photography makes better use of the high-resolution technology than does purple...

Like ads for the ESPNews channel, the promos for this show are much funnier than the product. While the best WB dramas (Felicity, Buffy and Dawson's Creek) shape teen angst into complex characters and sharp dialogue, Zoe doesn't get much beyond 10[cent] sitcom jokes. The idea of watching four non-vampire slaying Manhattan teenagers sounds appealing, but the show makes you realize how much of high school was down time, not worth committing to script. Zoe makes an effort with realistic teen dilemmas and some quirkiness, but the overall thinness leaves you wanting more Boy Meets World...
