...organized as a "happening." The loose plot concerns a young rake who is perplexed at his Don Juan complex and seeks the aid of a sex-starved pyschoanalyst. The analyst, played by Peter Sellers, believes in "group therapy," which means orgies. The final orgy, held at a small chateau just outside Paris, includes everything from timebombs to Ursella Andress...

Fontainebleau is a town 35 miles south of Paris, famous for its cheese, its forest, its historic chateau, and a 400-year-old monastery. Lately it has also become important to international business as the site of what is probably Europe's best business school, the Institut Européen d'Administration des Affaires. INSEAD, as it is known, has built a reputation as a sort of Harvard Business School of Europe by carefully winnowing applicants and training them so rigorously that they are eagerly courted by the headhunters of big international companies. Diary of a Chambermaid. Newly arrived from Paris to work in a stolid provincial home, the vixenish maid (Jeanne Moreau) quietly appraises her surroundings. Her employers inhabit a cheerless chateau stuffed with ferns, overprotected objets d'art, and family skeletons. She duly notes that the place is full of opportunities for a clever girl. ...mansion's walnut-paneled library, in William Ritman's massively evocative set, melds vaulting elegance with mute foreboding. The first person Julian meets is a butler named Butler (John Heffernan), who is not a butler. The first thing he sees is a scale model of the chateau, perfect in every exterior and interior detail. This permits clever wordplay on the ambiguity of appearance v. reality, but its blunt literalism sadly lacks the intellectual subtleties that Pirandello so often brought to the same theme. Julian meets Miss Alice (Irene Worth) and at the end of Act II is seduced...
