...city council job. People come up to him and thank him for giving them summer jobs when they were kids, a program that endeared thousands to Barry when he was mayor. He greets women with a ?hey darling, what?s happening,? kissing the younger ones some on the cheek and telling one, ?you look fabulous, you know.? Barry says he?s only focused on his ward and not interested in his old job, and most Washington political observers says his support is too limited for him to win another mayoral race. But it looks Barry will stay on the political...

...which consumers can get anything tailor-made to their needs--has hit the skin-care market. A company called Lab21, headquartered in Stony Brook, N.Y., creates individually formulated products based on a quantitative genetic test. Mostly he grins and chuckles while talking about how well he's been playing, how no other player seems able to touch him, and about all the compliments he's been receiving from his fellow pros and greats...

...hilarious. Meryl Streep lives up to her legendary reputation in the role of the neurotic Aunt Josephine; she is as bemusing in her phobias as she is touching in her delusions. Jude Law, the voice of Lemony Snicket, provides a pleasant balance between soothing narrator tones and tongue-in-cheek sarcasm. The three Baudelaire children are compelling too, but—perhaps unsurprisingly, considering their dazzling co-stars—they are the least notable of the performers. Occasionally, their acting seems forced, perhaps due to a combination of inexperience and the rare instances of clumsy dialogue...
