Changes consists of "a variety of original improvisations" and three one-act plays, one of which is apparently a jam session by local jazzmen. The other two are The Jewish Wife, which I gather is one of Bertolt Brecht's less worthwhile plays, and Michael McClure's The Cherub, which is evidently about someone called The Bed and described only as a sixty-two-year-old actress who must be seen. I have little or no idea what this means. Thursdays (cheaper), Fridays and Saturdays, 8 p.m. at Theater Two, 196 Broadway near Kendall Square...

...ROLL OUT. CBS. Friday, 8:30-9 p.m. E.S.T. Another wartime comedy, this time about a team of black convoy drivers in World War II France. The actors are delightful, especially Stu Gilliam as the street-smart sharpie "Sweet" Williams, cherub-faced Hilly Hicks as his Good Book-quoting buddy, and Val Bisoglio as the group's irascible Italian captain spleening his personal vendetta against il Duce. In the general humanization of angels during the Renaissance, the cherub's presence quickly succumbed. He became crossed with the amoretti, or baby cupids, of antiquity; the result, a tumbling, rosy piglet...

...young Ben, Beau Bridges (son of Actor Lloyd Bridges) plays the hero with the numbstruck charm of a tarnished cherub. Ben believes totally in America's favorite myth: the up-from-nothing success story. So believing, he becomes living proof of that other American truism: there's a sucker born every minute. Ben runs away to Chicago, sin city, carnival to a million peculators in wheat, meat and railways. Pickpockets, exposure and starvation nearly do him in until the boy comes under the wing of a municipal madam named Queen Lil (Melina Mercouri). Lil's most valued...
