Known by various names around the world - including funky chicken, space monkey, sleeper hold and the blackout, choking or fainting game - the activity involves applying pressure to the neck to stop the blood flow to the brain and then releasing the pressure to create a temporary sense of euphoria. It isn't new: French medical books mention the scarf game as early as the 18th century, and deaths in Britain, Canada and the U.S. have occasionally made the headlines over the years. All of those except for the produce were freezable items, and we actually bought a small freezer because it made sense to stock up once a month at the wholesale club on those bulk items...
...sure, but mainly the animated features from Pixar, Dreamworks and Aardman. These films did more than teach life lessons about the value of friendship, loyalty and initiative; they gave priceless instruction in what movies can be, and how to watch them. Seeing Finding Nemo, Kung Fu Panda and Chicken Run - not to mention this year's Up, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Coraline and The Princess and the Frog - should create in kids the demand that any movie aimed at them must be at least within shouting distance of those masterpieces. If the good doesn't drive out the bad, it should...
