...might think: tanned, dyed salmon skin. Soft, smooth and lightweight, this particular form of "sea leather" has a natural elasticity that won't sag after a dip. It also gets the green seal of approval; it's made from commercial fish skins that usually get tossed or turned into chicken feed. The suits are part of a full line of fish-leather apparel (including jackets, skirts and sandals) introduced by a London company this year. And, you'll be happy to learn, there's no fishy smell. ...bathroom habits? Isn't that their parents' job? Space Colony (PC, $40, Gathering) takes the Sims concept and runs with it for about a billion miles. You're still managing an unruly bunch of little people, but now they're trying to build industries--ranging from tourism to chicken farming--on alien worlds, and are beset all the while by bothersome creepy crawlies of every variety. Unfortunately, you don't get to tweak the personalities of these little people as you do in the Sims. But the built-in cast of characters is plenty entertaining. Venus Jones is the coolheaded...
...billion mainland consumers. But for KFC, this frontier has proved unexpectedly bountiful. Colonel Sanders, the goateed (and quite dead) Southern gentleman who is KFC's founder and marketing icon, rules the country's fast-food roost. KFC says more than 2 million Chinese eat at its stores every day, and KFC's parent, Yum! Brands, which also owns Pizza Hut and Taco Bell fast...
...China president, over a Pepsi in the KFC across the street from his Hong Kong office. Su, who was born in Taiwan and educated at the Wharton School, joined the KFC team in 1989; he has since succeeded where others have failed. American fast-food chains such as Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits and Dunkin' Donuts tried to establish China operations but were forced to retreat, in part because they didn't cater well enough to the palate of the Chinese consumer. By contrast, KFC has even outperformed fast-food giant McDonald's. KFC outlets outnumber Golden Arches by more than...
There are two great scenes in Tom Jones—a droll prologue styled after a silent film and an equally soundless dinner scene in which the titular Jones (Albert Finney) and his latest squeeze stare at each other as they devour oysters and chicken with lascivious panache. When the film turns to its sprawling episodic plot (taken from the Henry Fielding novel), things grow slow and confusing. Finney proves an immensely charismatic hero, though, and he makes even the tedious spells entertaining. Wednesday at 4:30 and 9:30 p.m. Brattle Theatre...
