True, there was a carmaker thrown in as part of the deal, and Cerberus agreed to invest a few billion dollars to help get struggling Chrysler back on its feet. Just after the transaction was announced, DaimlerChrysler CEO Dieter Zetsche (he of the big mustache and the TV ads) bristled when a journalist suggested that he had paid Cerberus to cart Chrysler away: "It was clearly stated that Cerberus invests 7.4 billion U.S. dollars in this transaction, which is not any form of being paid," he snapped...

...also readying cars for global export (Geely tiptoed into the Detroit auto show last year with a concourse display). And last month DaimlerChrysler announced a joint venture with Chinese automaker Chery to manufacture small cars in China and export them globally, including to the U.S., possibly bearing the Chrysler or Dodge badge...
...course, it wouldn't be an auto show if there weren't some silliness mixed in with the sensible. Chrysler teamed up with celebrity chef Bobby Flay to introduce its all-new 2008 Town Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans. Apparently Chrysler wanted to convey the idea that it's cooking up something spicier than dull minivans. And while they still do look pretty plain, Chrysler's new vans have some cool interior features, like seats that swivel 180 degrees and a removable table that fits between the second and third rows...
