Until it all comes out this week, the odds-on favorite for the presidential blessing was still Humphrey, who wanted the job badly, and who was trying to be as circumspect as possible under the circumstances. That was pretty hard to do, considering that his supporters turned the Minnesota delegation's Atlantic City headquarters into a virtual campaign command post, and considering also that somewhere, somebody must have had to get scores of signs and standards and balloons ready for the big spontaneous demonstration that might erupt on the convention floor...
...playing the role of a politician's perfect wife, the possessor of a flawless mediocrity that generates warm admiration but no scorching envy. Brother Tony says that "Lady Bird has been in public life and in the public eye for so long that she has learned to be circumspect, even when she's in a situation where she can let her hair down." Others find her barefoot-folksy talk a little too much, as when she drawls, "He's noisier than a mule in a tin barn," or "I'm busier than a man with...
There has been little apparent change on Beacon Hill since the indictments. Legislator and lobbyist are reportedly more circumspect, but the old brazen spirit still shows through, as the legislators passed a bill to reimburse themselves for legal fees incurred in their defense against indictments. They, and the electorate, would do well to recall Article VII of the first part...

Cigarettes cause lung cancer." Another shows a half-open coffin, with the legend: "The big Flip-Top Box for the Smoker." In Italy, all tobacco advertising was made illegal...
What makes it sound wilder is that Tech girls can visit Tech boys in their rooms for at least six hours a day (traffic the other way is restricted). The visits are mainly devoted to the "study date," a circumspect Tech tradition born of the pace as well as the propinquity. Tech girls adore "deep people." They scorn "meats" (inarticulate athletes), and go for "tools" (grinds) only if they can be "unlocked" (relaxed). That still leaves plenty of minds to meet: about 40% of Tech girls marry Techmen-much preferring them to Harvardmen, who are "all the same...
