Died. Gerhard Küntscher, 72, German surgeon who in 1939 developed a novel means of setting bone fractures; of a heart attack; in Glücksburg, West Germany. Küntscher's innovation was to drill a hole lengthwise into each section of a broken bone, then insert a metal pin to join the break.
