...scene was worthy of Goya. Out of Barcelona's Gothic Santa Eulalia Cathedral marched a procession of 120 angry, black-robed priests bearing a petition that preached against the government. From the other direction charged a crowd of grises-the grey-clad, club-swinging cops who maintain order in Spain. Before the melee was ended, blood flowed from anointed pates. It was another sign of the crisis that Spain is undergoing on the long road to reality...

...Will Fight." Whether or not his mood was affected by the military success, Premier Nguyen Cao Ky seemed to be in a freer and firmer state of mind about the political picture. Clad in a canary-yellow flight suit and sipping Jim Beam bourbon from a paper cup, he held an impromptu press conference at the Mekong Delta town of Can Tho. Ky said it would be at least a year before the new civilian government demanded by the Buddhists could be legally elected-and added that he expected to remain in power for that period. London last week, Director John Huston gave the go-ahead. The clapstick snapped: The David Niven Story. The cameras began rolling, and there, logically enough, was Niven, clad in an Edwardian velvet dinner jacket, lolling around the banqueting hall of a Scottish castle. Even more implausible, the name Niven is never mentioned in any of the scripts. What's even...

Babe makes another point against the committee system: it has made drama political: "Without a specific policy about the relative value of kinds of productions that can be done in the theatre, without a policy above the level of collected and iron-clad prejudices, the building seems to me like a facility, a thing to be used by anyone with the ingenuity or brains or persuasion to get control. That is not really a free theatre at all, since talented people not adept at polities are going...
