Officers are wary with reason. "They're scum," says a man clad in Celtic gear at a St. Patrick's Day parade. But opinions are shifting. Sinn Fein removed the last major obstacle to collaborative policing in January when it voted to support the PSNI. People still see cops as cops, of course. Draped in the Republic of Ireland's tricolor just after the parade, a young couple gripes about officers clearing out bars right at closing time. "But," says the man, "we wouldn't have known anyone in the police in the old days. Now we have friends...

...Across town outside the Syndicate of Journalists, a few dozen Kifaya protesters chanted "Down, down Mubarak!" as they were hemmed in by hundreds of black-clad security policemen and scores of plainclothes policemen. "I didn't vote," said Mohammed Fawzi, a 26-year-old lawyer, who spent the day observing the Kifaya demonstration instead. "Whether you voted 'yes' or 'no,' the outcome would be the same. One player is missing though--superstar pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka, who left for the Boston Red Sox this...

A tweed-clad throng led the class of 2010 on an inaugural foxhunt through the Old Yard. I developed a close relationship with Harvey C. Mansfield ’53, the manly Kenan Jr. Professor of Government with a heart of gold. We ate at a candlelit table; Plummer Professor of Christian Morals Peter J. Gomes made clear which fork was for which dish...

...real names. We're typing things like LOL, c u later, and using a parenthesis and a colon to demonstrate joy, which I find awkward and desensitizing. I'm not an old fashioned guy, but the subtext is that over time it's possible that we may get so clad in electronics and isolation and distance and desensitization that we will not only lose our innocence, but we won't even think we need to be innocent. And that will be a bad time. This movie is intended as family entertainment that also has some depth and substance...
