...apartments if their children do not go through the dedication ritual (and the six-month indoctrination leading up to it). Usually, it is enough for the Reds to make clear that few students not so dedicated have much chance of going on to secondary schools and universities. The Communists claim that 72.5% of all eligible schoolchildren in East Germany are now registered for Youth Dedication, as compared to only 25% last year...
...most surprised to see the claim in your obituary of my mother, Dr. Marie Stopes, that she was a Roman Catholic at the time of her first marriage. This is quite untrue, for she of course was never a Roman Catholic at any time in her life...
When Antonio Stradivari died in Cremona, Italy in 1737, he left behind him an estimated 1,100 masterfully constructed stringed instruments, of which perhaps 600 that have any claim to his name exist today. As a priest in Nazi-ruled Austria, he was in constant trouble with the Nazis over their claim that the state alone should be responsible for youth. During World War II he was a familiar figure at Allied P.W. camps. An authority on the ancient religions of Mithraism and Zoroastrianism, Koenig has written several books, articles and a dictionary on this subject. Said one of his friends last week: "Vienna has gained a cardinal but lost a scholar...
