...next academic year. With elected representatives dedicated solely to social programming and a close relationship with the College dean’s office, we expect that the new board will function far more efficiently than its predecessor, the UC’s Campus Life Committee (CLC), did. Notably missing, however, from the CEB’s mission is a commitment to provide logistical support and advice to students who wish to plan their own social events. ...Cambridge Licensing Commission’s (CLC) reasoning behind its perennial refusal to allow Harvard Square nightlife to exist by forcing all restaurants and bars to shut down at 2 a.m. could not be more nonsensical. For example, the CLC claims that that noise from late-night eateries, such as Felipe’s Taqueria (which faced penalties last fall for selling burritos a few minutes past 2 a.m.), would be disruptive to Cambridge residents. Suggestions ranged from replacing CLC with a Educational Advoacy Committee, to creating a third UC committee dedicated outreach activities and student services, to eliminating the third committee altogether. After a preliminary vote reduced the UC’s options to either creating an outreach committee or maintaining the CLC without...
...when it was announced that the largest size of boxes had sold out within “eight to sixteen minutes.” Within an hour, all the new boxes had sold out completely. Pointing out that this will be the last function that the Campus Life Committee (CLC) will ever coordinate, Litman said that “people that had any doubts about whether 2x2 was the way to go should take this as a sign,” referring to the recent initiative passed to cut the size of the UC to two reps per House...
