...Canary Cottage," which opened this week at the Park Square, is another of Oliver Morosco's clever, frank, and somewhat unrefined musical farces. Like "So Long Letty," which was here a short time ago, this piece treats of western life in the rough, and like it, was produced first on the Pacific coast and then brought here. That it contains a wealth of vulgar humor there is no denying; but the vulgarity, or frankness as it might better be called, is introduced as the means rather than...

...well written. There is not one bad thing in the number, and the good things show a really surprising command of language. Yet there is nothing very notable in the collection, one receives the same impression that one so often gets from Harvard papers: here are a lot of clever young men who have read a good deal and know how to write; they are civilized, intelligent, sensitive, literary--but they haven't very much to say for themselves. The poets, particularly fail to express anything vital or even individual. They write pretty fair verse in a good many different...

...thinks Belgium was militaristic and Switzerland unarmed, or whether he similarly holds that umbrellas are the cause of rain, we do not know; but he scorns Professor Perry for not agreeing with him. One is forced to assume that he was not allowed to read Mr. LaFarge's clever little essay on book-reviewing, which appears directly above "B. D. A's" Philippic, and applies admirably to that effort--but perhaps it also applies to this effort...

Townsend played a hard, steady game at left centre and worked well with T. H. Rice '17 at left wing. These two players kept the puck almost entirely down in front of the substitutes' goal and did some clever passing along the boards. Townsend, in particular, carried the puck frequently through the opposing team, his individual work as well as team play standing out conspicuously. Percy was easily the fastest man on the ice and was, besides, brilliant on the defence, slowing up the scrub forwards by skating across in front of them when they had the puck...

Another heady player was D. Appleton '18, who relieved Thacher for a time. Playing on team B against team D after the regulars were through, he again and again took the puck down the Arena with clever stick work and good judgment, and finally was able to smash it into the goal. In this scrimmage H. M. Bliss '17, T. K. Fisher '17, R. J. H. Powel '18, R. Baldwin '17 and C. W. Timpson '18 also scored goals for team B and a long tally was made for their opponents by W. W. Rice '18 on a back-hand...
